You Capture: My Winter (so far)

This week's You Capture challenge was "Winter."
We were asked to show what our winter looked like.
I suppose if I still lived in Florida, I'd have very different pictures to show you, but in the DC area, winter mostly looks like this...

Sometimes, in the winter, it's just cold... no snow... maybe a little ice.

That's when my bird feeder likes to wear it's favorite sombrero, complete with ice tassels.

Sometimes,in the winter, we find a winter wonderland, but that often looks like work for the grown ups.

However, the kids love it!

(Don't let that face fool you...  he's lovin' it too.)

In the winter, we get visitors from furry critters and as long as they are outside, I'm okay with that.
(But those long-tailed, squeaky mice better stay the heck out of my laundry room!)

The winter sunrises occur a little later in the day, so sometimes I can catch a pretty one on camera.

But, a lot of time, winter finds us indoors, playing games or maybe watching Phineas and Ferb and drinking hot cocoa.

Oh, did you think I was watching that on my own?
Well... I would, but this kid keeps me company.

Go check out some more winter coziness at Beth's blog, I Should Be Folding Laundry.

p.s.  Just in case anyone saw yesterday's post and thought (despite my disclaimer) that that picture was actually my kitchen, I wanted you to know that my kitchen actually looks like this.
Could be cleaner, has definitely been messier, but never, ever like that picture I posted yesterday!!  Yikes.
(I say this because even my own daughter was confused.)

was it Julia or Quincy that was confused? love all the pictures...especially the squirrelly one.

It was Quincy... I don't think the picture confused her so much, but she was asking, "who did we invite? when?"

Nice kitchen!

I love the "sombrero." What a great turn of phrase. And let me just say that when your comment popped up on my blog, I got very, very confused because your email looks like my baby sister's name, and your blog URL starts with my maiden name! I seriously thought my sister had come up with a new identity. LOL

So I see you have tame squirrels there too who love to nosh on free food! Great shots, Colleen. OH, and that's it, I totally signed up to follow you because I just love your sense of humor!

Your squirrel picture is pretty cool. My 4 year old LOVES the snow, too even if I don't. That makes it worth suffering outside, doesn't it?!? ha! Great shots!

There's some great shots here, the sunrise one is gorgeous. I also love the one of the squirell and the corn in the snow. I think the bird feeder looks grat with it's ice tassels too.

So beautiful, and nostalgic for me. We lived in NoVA for 5 years. My eldest was born there, and then we moved to HAwaii and then to San Diego. Every night he prays that JEsus would send snow to San Diego, LOL.

Is that teakettle on for me? Let's sit and bake some scones and watch your ice melt. T.J., you signed up for a very good reason...that wacky sense of humor. Didn't get it from me though.

That bird feeder looks lovely with the ice "tassels"! Why does mine only dress with waterdrops?

While I was here, I decided to look around a bit. What delightful wintry photos you've shared here ... especially love the little squirrel enjoying a meal in the snow and the icicles suspended from the bird feeder. Makes me want to put on a jacket ... just because.
Hugs and blessings,
