You don't bring me flowers...

Ever since I saw that this week's You Capture theme was "flowers"
I couldn't stop singing that song.

Of course, I could only remember the first two lines of the song.
"You don't bring me flowers
You don't sing me love songs..."
The rest was buried somewhere in the recesses of my memory where I keep Barbara Striesand songs.
You know... songs that you oddly know, but don't really want to know.

I just looked up the song on youtube.
It's depressing... I need to send it back to the nether regions of my brain.
Blech...

Besides, I've always been a strong believer in
"Get your own damn flowers!"

But even I don't bring my own self flowers anymore.

There's a perfectly good reason for that.

I'm a serial.  flower.  murderer.

I just can't keep a plant alive.

EVER.

So... if someone were to bring me flowers,
I tend to prefer the already cut kind,
since someone already cut them and I can't be held responsible for their eventual deaths.

However, if you bring me a potted plant,
I will feel responsible for it's growth and well-being
and will feel all sad and guilty when the inevitable happens,
You know...when it finally decides that life in my house isn't worth living so it just shrivels up and dies.

It's sad.

So all that is to say that I had exactly ONE flower in my yard that I could take a picture of.
It's a stubborn little rose bush that is scraggly and ugly, but it also won't die, so FINE!

I took it's picture... it posed nicely.
Then I edited the heck out of it.
The first one is SOOC, the rest are variations on the theme.

Now I just need to find a way to kill that dang song!

I have 2 of the same roses sitting on the piano..same color, opened the same way. Dad brought me flowers to help make me feel better...and they(he)did!

i despite my murderous tendencies toward potted plants still somehow seem drawn to them...glutton for punishment i guess, but the cut ones are just fine and do eliminate the guilt....all but for the now i am throwing these away guilt, these pretty(dead)flowers you bought for me. come to think of it, the husband does not bring me flowers anymore, but i think that might be my own fault. what was i thinking.

would you feel so bad if it was say a potted cactus or maybe a marigold?

My dad gave me a potted plant once, one of his prized african violets that he grows. I did my best to keep it alive for almost a year, and was pretty proud that it was still alive. Then he came and visited, saw what a sad shape it was in and took it back. Pretty sure that is the last time he is going to give me flowers...

Very pretty. I like what you did -- all of it. When you only have one flower to play with.... ;)

I have no flowers and no camera. :( So I'm not playing this week. Sad, no?

Raising my hand and joining the ranks of plant killers anonymous (or not so anonymous). I do "okay" with outside HARDY plants, but anything else is just sad. And houseplants would do better to dive out of the car whilst I zip down the freeway than to try to live in my house!

I like the second one best. Pretty pinks!

What a wonderful, pretty and HARDY little flower.

I like your view of flowers that are brought to you. They are already cut so you can't be responsible for their eventual death. Hmmm... So true!

Lovely photos!Oh, I hear you singing that song from my past. Neil Diamond with B! I'm not the best with plants either and currently do not have any in my house for that reason. Great turn of phrase "serial plant killer." I shouldn't laugh, but being part of that club lets me...

Oh and I have a brown thumb, too. I refuse to admit it is a black thumb.

Such lovely editing! It was a pretty flower to begin with!

And I have NO idea how my flowers live! I try to choose plants that are "hardy" and will withstand a LOT of neglect! :)

Oh how pretty! I like the SOOC and your edits!

Don’t give up on flowers… I planted about 100 sunflowers last year, and the squirrels dug them ALL up. (I managed to get one to grow, only because they planted it!)

This year, I hid a few seeds in a row of corn, and ended up with some gorgeous ones! You just never know.

post made me laugh. thanks!

I photographed and wrote about sunflowers, but here in Ohio, they were dying...as are all the flowers. Still had fun though...interesting how they turned out.
