Halloween and Dead Silence

They're creepy and they're kooky,
Mysterious and spooky,
They're altogether ooky,
My extended family!

Just when you think the kids have decided that dressing up wasn't for them,
they turn around and change their minds and get all decked out for Halloween.

This is my favorite group picture from all our years of trick or treating.

Only the two younger ones actually went door to door,
but I was thrilled that all of them dressed up in some way.
Even if Grant recycled last years costume.
For Kevin, that meant putting on a Superman t-shirt, but we were all impressed with even that small effort.

We sat out on the porch and watched 219! little ghouls and goblins come to the door.
Vampires, Zombies, Ninjas and Pirates were the popular costumes.

Some were more unique.

There was a Brutal Mugger, a Zombie that only eats noses, and Little Red Undead.
There were cute gnomes, furry lions, fairies galore, disney princesses,
two Taylor Swifts and one Hannah Montana.

My favorite (other than my own Mary Poppins) was the little baby in the UPS uniform.
Too cute!

Quincy's witch costume was a last minute throw together, but it turned out well.
However, don't ask her to cackle...
she is entirely incapable of sounding remotely scary. :)

Adding the carpet bag to the Mary Poppin's costume was the perfect finishing touch.

On to the second half of this post....
Silence.

True silence is difficult to come across.
Even that which we perceive as silence has noise,
the hum of a refrigerator, the click of the heater coming on,
the tv turned down low,
birds outside, the rumble of traffic.
We think it's quiet in comparison to the chaos that surrounds us, but silent?  Not so much.

However, there is something about a cemetery, even in broad daylight that implies silence.

I say that you are never too old to dress up, too. I loved those pictures! And the carpet bag did complete the outfit.

Perfect jack-o-latern shot by the way!

Oh what fun! I love all of the costumes! Very creative.

I thought about doing a cemetery for silence as well. But I didn’t get by one, and almost ran out of time. Great shots!

I like walking through cemeteries... especially old ones. There's some cool headstones!

I love those photos of your Halloween costumed clan but my favorite is Mary Poppins, that is a great costume and definitely the carpet bag added the finishing touch.

You are right, silence, true silence, is hard to find but a graveyard encourages that.

Great costumes and captures.

love it. I was just thinking this year, I wonder how long my kids will want to do this? JoJo was pretty cut trick or treating. She quickly got the hang of it and had no fear going up to people to get candy and wanted no help.

Funny--and I love Mary Poppins! Awesome!

I'm especially impressed that a teenager was willing to put on a full hot dog costume.

What a great crew! I'm surprised they didn't all walk with the younger two anyway. We had some big kids come to our door - we just made them do tricks for the treats, lol.
