I usually keep my tree up till after New Years...

But my tree gave up...

and so did I!

My pre-lit tree lost most of it's lights before we decorated so we added a few new strands of lights,
but before the holidays were over we lost a few more sections.

We called it our stripy tree,
our zebra tree,
our candy cane tree...

but it really annoyed me.

So I spent most of the day yesterday taking it down.
It was time.

Look at all of those needles!?

If I'm going to have thousands of needles in the carpet, I may as well have a real tree.
But I don't... it's fake.

And it's old and it's looking a little sad and maybe it's time to go to the big Christmas tree farm in the sky.

Thank you tree for your years of service.
Next year we're getting a real tree.

(It'll probably lose just as many needles
and with my luck it will come complete with a couple of extra large spider families. )
Shudder!

(But it's time....)

(Does this count as Holiday favorites?  If so... I'm linking to you capture.)

I love how stripey looks. Very festive. Too bad it has to go. :( I can't believe the fakes shed almost as many needles as real. Ugh!

Hope your real one next year works out okay.

That's too funny. My mom's tree had a whole big section at the top where the lights kept going on and off. Drove her nuts. :)

Okay- Every year I bug my husband to get a pre-lit tree. We have had our fake one for many years & I hate stringing & taking down the lights. But I never thought about the fact that some lights may go out and not others. With out this post- I may have actually convinced him to get a pre-lit & then had to listen to him & the "I told you so's" later on. Thank you!! :)

Of course it counts...may not be your favorite memory, but I'm sure it will make this Christmas memorable! Great captures, btw!

I told my husband we should get a real tree next year too :) We didnt have problems with light outages but we do have a pre-lit tree and this is it's second year so you never know what another year in storage will bring. But I do love the look of a real tree and fingers crossed we get a new home it'll be a perfect setup! :D

Yay for real trees. I am allergic to them but I still get one every year and put up with the sneezing and congestion.

Oh and I think the tree farms spray trees to prevent insect outbreaks. My cousin once cut a tree down from his yard and Christmas Eve had a ceiling full of aphids! The warmth awakened them. His tree wasn't treated.

Happy New Year.

The stripe is kind of a cool look, but I think the needles on the floor would get to me too.

We tossed a tree just like that last year for the exact same reason. It's just worn out it's welcome. I bet you can find good deals right now though!

I didn't even notice the stripiness until you mentioned it. :-)

That does seem like an awful lot of hassle for a fake tree. But real trees can be hassles, too. I'm a fake tree girl myself. This definitely counts as a holiday favorite. If you tried I bet you couldn't duplicate your zebra tree. Maybe you should just keep it.

Oooo. But it does look lovely. :)

We just bought a new prelit tree last year and one of the string of lights was already out this year. We were MAD. Still are, actually.

We always used to have real trees and we never had a big problem with them dropping tons of needles. And no spider families either. :)

In that photo, the tree actually looks so cool...but it would've annoyed me, too. Still, it really was so beautiful!

I have a whole pile of needles from our real tree...I think it's coming down tonight! But I had no idea fake ones had the same problem!

I hate putting all the lights on a real tree though. If the pre-lit ones worked, that would be the one advantage for me!

My pre-lit tree did the SAME thing this year although it lost it in big chunks rather than lines and looked MUCH worse than yours! I still think yours is gorgeous. Merry belated Christmas! :)
