Oh, Hail! I'm forty...

I had a birthday yesterday.
A big one, I suppose.

Over the last year or so, I've wondered how I was going to celebrate the big day.
I never could come up with a great plan, so I just took the day as it came.
And it turned out to be a wonderful day.
One of the best parts of the day was simply going about my life spending time with so many great friends.
It's kind of what I've been doing everyday since we've moved back,
but I still find those moments precious.
I am beyond glad to have an amazing group of friends and neighbors to share my life with.

So my day was pretty special.

Oh... and it hailed.

Legos, Lincoln Logs and Liquid diets?

Legos are awesome.

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't matter whether you are four, fourteen or forty,
there's a good chance that you'll feel the same.

In this case, my newly turned 14 year old, spent his birthday at a lego building exhibit at the National Building Museum.

There were large lego buildings to admire...

And a room full of loose legos to create his own architectural wonders.
This kept him, his sister and his 19yo friend quite happy for quite a while.

(Despite the fact that we have thousands upon thousands of our own legos at home that haven't been handled and or licked by the masses of children that have visited that exhibit previously!)

(Thank God for hand sanitizer.)

Later that evening, the waiters at the local Mexican restaurant surprised him with a song,
a sombrero, and a scoop of ice cream lit with a single candle.

He was so stunned that he began to eat while the candle was still lit.

"Uh, Grant?  Are you going to blow it out?"

Grant has always had a knack for asking for unique birthday gifts.
One year it was a bust of Beethoven,
another year it was a couch.

This year he wanted lincoln logs (he's still a little boy at heart)
and
a blender.

Yes.... a blender.

Perhaps he wants to start a liquid diet?
Or maybe he just wants to make shakes and smoothies in his spare time...
one can never know what is going on inside of that mind of his.  :)

But I love the way he thinks!!

Happy 14th Birthday!!

I'm linking this to You Capture as their theme this week is the letter "L".

My baby is TEN!

For most people, Memorial Day revolves around barbecues, picnics, and parades remembering those who have died for this country, and we find time for those things too, but mostly our memorial days revolve around this girl, whose birthday usually falls on or around that last weekend in May.

So this Memorial Day weekend we found ourselves rollerblading
and getting our ears pierced.

(I say "our" because I took this opportunity to get mine re-pierced since they had closed up far too long ago
and I miss wearing earrings.)

Julia's siblings treated her very well and showered her with presents
which you can see that she was very excited about.
They also showered her with confetti.
I love this series of photos.
Go ahead and take a second look at the faces.
Makes. me. laugh......

This face just makes me smile.
It's hard to believe that my baby, my youngest is ten years old.

Celebrating Grant

My wonderful, talented, intelligent, quirky little boy is a teenager today.
It's hard to believe.
It's easy to miss the sweet little baby and toddler that he was,
but I enjoy him so much at the age he is now.

Occasionally, his wardrobe choices are a little questionable.
Shoes and socks outside in the sprinkler...

Ski goggles and bare feet in the house,
but that just makes us smile!

He can be very determined...

Trying to get every last leaf off of a tree...

Or getting the high score in a dancing game...

Or perfecting the ten or more piano pieces he is currently learning.

That determination and his innate talent makes him an amazing piano player.
I'm so blessed to be able to listen to him play on a daily basis.

He's incredibly smart, hardworking and an all around great guy.
I love him so much and I am lucky to have him as part of my life.

Happy 13th Birthday, Grant!

Thanksgiving Day 3: It's my birthday!

Today I am thankful for 38 years and for a family that loves me enough to want to make a little something special to mark that occasion.

Or wait... lets zoom out on that picture....
Yep, that's pure excitement you see on Kevin's face.
So excited, it just overwhelmed him.
Gotta love the kid!

Happy Birthday, Julia!

It's Julia's 9th Birthday!
I tried to limit myself to one picture per year, but I just couldn't do it,
there were so many good ones to choose from.

Happy Birthday, Julia.
We are lucky to have you as part of our lives!
Love you lots and lots!

Happy Birthday, Grant!!!

Happy Birthday!
Grant is 12 years old today, only one year away from being a teenager!
As you all know, Grant has some amazing qualities that we all love, but most of all we just love Grant for being Grant.
Love you, kiddo.
(I'd give you lots of hugs and kisses, but I won't torture you like that.)
