Well, I definitely had a moment this week!
The moment my new camera arrived only 18 hours after I ordered it online.
I wish I had had the presence of mind to take pictures of the UPS man handing me the lovely brown package all wrapped in B and H tape.
That was a wonderful moment.
The moment became a full blown, jumping up and down, squealing with excitement kind of moment as I opened the box and pulled out the goodies inside.
I slowly opened the boxes and reverently placed them on the recently cleaned counter.
No crumbs allowed!
Then there was the moment of fear and uncertainty.
Was I ready to give up my little camera?
Will I know how to work the new one?
What if I drop it?
Oh, please, don't let me drop it.
I slowly opened each component.
Placed the memory card and battery in the camera.
Turned it on.
And, OH!... like Frankenstein's monster, it came to life!
I pointed the lens at the nearest object.
Not bad...
Then the nearest kid.
Cool!!
Oh, yeah... this is going to be good.
So I wandered around my house and took 217 pictures of random objects.
(I'm not kidding... that's the actual number!)
If it didn't move... and maybe even if it did, it was fair game.
I took it in the car to pick Quincy up from school.
and... like a good and very trusting mother....
I let her take a few pictures.
After prying the camera from her hands,
I took about three hundred more shots outside
(an approximation, but pretty darn close to the truth)
and a few more around the house
Where I captured a few more moments...

Love it! So excited for you! Loving my Canon too.
You are so cute! I know the joyous feeling of opening the box of a brand-new camera. My first D-SLR was just two months ago when I got a Nikon D5000. I am learnign so much in a photography class right now and love it. Is this your first SLR? I am thinking it isn't since your photos are truly too good to be a beginners. Anyway, hope you join the April Photo Hunt. Have fun with your new baby!
OMG OMG OMG!!!!! Awesome Awesome Awesome! My heart is pitter patting for you, Colleen!!! AND those pictures are so NICE! Wow- the clarity!
Awesome! I feel your anticipation and thrills. B & H is the company I used to order one of my Canon lenses from. I own the first version of the Rebel. (Well, it went to my daughter after I was gifted with a different Canon camera) I enjoyed many years of fun with my Rebel. Pure elation! Seeing your photos makes me smile, too!

my eyes are dripping with camera envy ---- does that even make sense??? lol well im super jealous. I especially love those last 2 shots of grant and julia and that 1 of Quincy taking a pic of her self in the visor mirror
I'm so happy for you!! I love what you did so far, the portraits are stunning!
Congratulations on your new camera! I love the shot of the fish and the yellow blossoms. Just lovely!
Ack! The 1.4, I'm so jealous! You did an amazing job, isn't it fun! I was going to say the exact same thing as Abby, my favs of all those shots are the yellow flowers and that goofy fish (the angle you got on him is just great).
Very jealous! Looks like an awesome moment! :)
So excited for you! And you got some great shots for not being familiar with that new puppy!
These are great! I can't wait to see everything you discover with that new camera.
Having a good camera (I have the exact same one!) makes all the difference. I still haven't a chance to play around with mine the way that I really want to. I need to venture out of the automatic settings, but the thought of it is so intimidating. And oh what I would do for a zoom lens!
Great pictures. Can't wait to see what you capture next!
Have fun with your new camera! I love my rebel! I used this website alot when I was learning how to use my camera: http://www.digital-photography-school.com
OH hurray! Congratulations!!! Have tons of fun learning the new buttons and READ THE MANUAL!!
Oh, and that fish picture? Amazing!
how exciting, colleen! i sooo wish that my pictures from a new camera. & i LOVE your random objects pictures. those are by far my favorite kinds of photos - finding the abstract in the everyday is such a satisfying & beautiful way to see life. well done!
thanks for your sweet comments on my post, too. the encouragement is so needed.
I can tell you are going to love this camera! It is so fun getting something new...especially a camera!
So many great moments captured with a shiny new camera! Have fun with it! You'll never look back!
That is a very nice camera indeed! But no, you won't have to give up your little camera. I have a 'Rebel' too (it's called something different over here) but for stuffing in my pocket or clipping at my waist for those grab shots, I still use my point-and-shoot Panasonic Lumix.
What an exciting moment! I think that's the same camera I have. So much fun - congrats!
The 50mm 1.4 is my baby - you are going to love it!
Very cool!! I can tell you're having fun with it! Besides the pictures of the kids, I liked the forsythias and I think I had a peek of Dad there on the shelf. Am I right?
My friend just bought a Rebel and is going around taking pictures. I have dabbled in photography and within 3 weeks of owning it she has more stuff than I ....LOL
OH so cool!! Lucky you!! Very nice pictures! I just love taking pictures with a new camera. Somehow they come out so much better. :)
yippee! a new camera.
(and i can't believe you even LET someone else hold it within the first day ... my husband rarely gets to hold mine ... even a year later!)
Awesome pictures! I can't wait to get a better camera. I'm thankful for the one I have though. I went w/out a camera for over 6 months. Can you imagine!
Wow! Your photos look like you have been using the camera for years. It's so exciting to get a new camera. Looks like you'll be putting it to great use!
What?! I missed this monumental moment in your life?
How happy are you? The photos are beautiful...truly. And do you love the 50mm? It's a pretty spiffy little lens. And even the 1.4? Amazing what you can capture with that light right?
