What a moment!

Well, I definitely had a moment this week!
The moment my new camera arrived only 18 hours after I ordered it online.
I wish I had had the presence of mind to take pictures of the UPS man handing me the lovely brown package all wrapped in B and H tape.
That was a wonderful moment.

The moment became a full blown, jumping up and down, squealing with excitement kind of moment as I opened the box and pulled out the goodies inside.

I slowly opened the boxes and reverently placed them on the recently cleaned counter.
No crumbs allowed!

Then there was the moment of fear and uncertainty.
Was I ready to give up my little camera?
Will I know how to work the new one?
What if I drop it?
Oh, please, don't let me drop it.

I slowly opened each component.
Placed the memory card and battery in the camera.
Turned it on.
And, OH!... like Frankenstein's monster, it came to life!

I pointed the lens at the nearest object.
Not bad...

Then the nearest kid.
Cool!!

Oh, yeah... this is going to be good.

So I wandered around my house and took 217 pictures of random objects.
(I'm not kidding... that's the actual number!)

If it didn't move... and maybe even if it did, it was fair game.

I took it in the car to pick Quincy up from school.

and... like a good and very trusting mother....

I let her take a few pictures.

After prying the camera from her hands,
I took about three hundred more shots outside
(an approximation, but pretty darn close to the truth)

and a few more around the house

Where I captured a few more moments...

Check out more wonderful moments at Beth's photo meme,

You are so cute! I know the joyous feeling of opening the box of a brand-new camera. My first D-SLR was just two months ago when I got a Nikon D5000. I am learnign so much in a photography class right now and love it. Is this your first SLR? I am thinking it isn't since your photos are truly too good to be a beginners. Anyway, hope you join the April Photo Hunt. Have fun with your new baby!

Awesome! I feel your anticipation and thrills. B & H is the company I used to order one of my Canon lenses from. I own the first version of the Rebel. (Well, it went to my daughter after I was gifted with a different Canon camera) I enjoyed many years of fun with my Rebel. Pure elation! Seeing your photos makes me smile, too!

Ack! The 1.4, I'm so jealous! You did an amazing job, isn't it fun! I was going to say the exact same thing as Abby, my favs of all those shots are the yellow flowers and that goofy fish (the angle you got on him is just great).

Having a good camera (I have the exact same one!) makes all the difference. I still haven't a chance to play around with mine the way that I really want to. I need to venture out of the automatic settings, but the thought of it is so intimidating. And oh what I would do for a zoom lens!

Great pictures. Can't wait to see what you capture next!

That is a very nice camera indeed! But no, you won't have to give up your little camera. I have a 'Rebel' too (it's called something different over here) but for stuffing in my pocket or clipping at my waist for those grab shots, I still use my point-and-shoot Panasonic Lumix.

What?! I missed this monumental moment in your life?

How happy are you? The photos are beautiful...truly. And do you love the 50mm? It's a pretty spiffy little lens. And even the 1.4? Amazing what you can capture with that light right?
