The itsy bitsy spider...

***Leslie, Do not read this post!***

You'll just be grossed out and mad at me.

Julia found this little guy on the couch cushion next to her head.
Let's just say that she wasn't pleasantly surprised!

Grant, being the man of the house at the moment,
took on the responsibility of head spider remover.
Thank you, Grant!

I shirked my motherly duties of comforting and helping in favor of hiding on the other side of the house.
I do NOT like spiders either!
But then it occurred to me... this guy could be a great macro monday subject,
so I grabbed my camera and followed Grant outside to take a few pictures.
This prompted Julia to cry, "Mom!  You're so weird!!!"

Not two hours later, I picked up a pile of clothing slated for Goodwill
and out flew (scrambled.... fell, whatever)
this not so little guy!

He was not cute.
He was not little.
And I was not about to get close enough to get a decent picture.
But I did take one...
prompting Julia to cry, "Geez, MOM!  Are you kidding?!"

After much screaming, stress, and the use of a long broom,
we managed to get this guy out of the house too.

Shudder!

Have I mentioned that my oldest has a pet tarantula that doesn't bother me in the least?
Go figure.
I can't begin to explain my brain.

I imagine there will be cuter/ prettier macro shots at Lisa's Macro Monday.

Can you hear me screaminggggg!!!!!! I wonder where you got your dislike of spiders??? Julia's comments are funny!

Well they do eat the other bugs you know. Funny thing (or not so funny) is that you won't be sticking your hand in your laundry basket for a long long time without a good shake first.

Good show in the line of fire. Grossed out or not, your creative duty prevailed Colleen. We photographers are a bit looney that way.

You know you're doint the right thing when your kids tell you you're weird. Hah!

ha, good post :) I have my moments with spiders. There are times when i get totally wigged out but a lot of times, i have no issues. Dunno what that's about. That second one is probably a harmless wolf spider ? They seem to be inside houses a lot. That first guy is pretty cool looking :)

Yep, I see a spider theme. At least my spider was not inside. I would have had to move house.

ooh..yucky! Those look like BIG spiders..not itsy bitsy ones! We have scorpions here. I freak out every time. I never considered taking pictures of them, but hey, now you've inspired me. I would definitely have to use my zoom lens :).

There are many things I will photograph, but I cannot bring myself to get near enough to these things to take a picture.

Holy crap!!! I'd still be running down the road, screaming, if that was on the couch by me.

Spiders YUCK YUCK YUCK.

I'd like to say that living in Texas has helped me recover from my phobia, but that would be a LIE. Yesterday hubby mowed our back yard, for the first time since September, I'd say. The Texas Wolf Spiders that crawled onto the back porch, were MONSTROUS. I'm not exaggerating, when I tell you MOUSE SIZED. Even though they were outside, and I was in, I lifted my feet off of the ground, and couldn't stand to put them back down without wearing boots for the rest of the night. Even this morning, I'm having a hard time relaxing, keeping myself on full alert, ready to protect and panic if need be.

My phobia is very real.

Great shots, but at what cost? eeeeeeeeeek! You couldn't pay me to take pics of spiders. Well maybe daddy long legs.

Soooo you didn't kill them? I was told it was bad luck to kill spiders. I think my grams told me that. Which is surprising since the average human eats 7-8 spiders in their sleep per year. ICK!!!!!

i love spiders...actually i used to play with the red backs at home (sydney) not knowing they were poisonous...i believe they are called black widows here, something i've recently learnt. good thing i was never bitten!

Spiders intrigue me and I think their is a fair difference between a tarantula in a tank and a wild spider loose in the house. That was quite a big boy in your house as it looked large even from the distance you took the picture at.

Glad no one was harmed in the making of this post ;)

Sorry I'm deployed and that my spider-squishing duties have not been reassigned. Glad you managed to survive this attack, but I'm sure the evil arachnids are planning their next offensive...

Sometimes I wish the spiders would be a good model and stay still for a while, at least till I get some good shot!lol
Good macro.

OMG...look at the size of that spider! It looks like a Wolf Spider to me and this is the time of the year I find them in my house. They are so fast but I manage to get 'em!

I would be so freaking out to find the first one and then finding another one would put me over the edge. :)
I'm allergic to the rascals so I stay far away.
Someday she'll love all the memories you've captured. :)
