Lessons learned: Photo walk edition

So much fun and so many wonderful things came of the photo walk on Saturday.
The time spent getting to know and learning from some amazing women
was well worth dealing with the heat, the rubbing shoes, and the craziest metro ride ever!

So here are a few lessons learned...
No matter how many times you've looked at the same pointy monument,
no matter how many pictures that you and the rest of the world have taken of that pointy monument,
there's always the possibility of finding a different angle with which to see it.

Lesson learned....
Don't apologize for your vision.
When the picture popped into my mind,
I looked around and said to the person nearest me,
"Don't laugh... sometimes I like to take stupid pictures."
Turns out, it was one of my favorite shots of the day.

Lesson learned...
In a world full of giant buildings and over-sized monuments, find the details.

Lesson learned...
Don't be afraid to lay on the ground, climb a tree, hang upside down, whatever...
to get the shot that you want.
No one will think you are weird, more likely they'll just be curious to see what you are seeing.

(I did not live by this rule this weekend, I was too timid and shy while surrounded by all those wonderful and non-judgmental women and I regret it. )

Lesson learned...
Totally take advantage of someone else's photo shoot
especially if they are wearing an incredibly awesome hat!

(Can't come up with a lesson for this one.  shrug.)

Lesson learned...
Living, moving creatures totally trump marble statues.

and duck butts are far more photogenic than people butts.
(Well.... I guess that depends on the person.)

So many lessons to be learned here...
I just love this spot
and it was the one picture that I had planned in advance to take while I was there.

So maybe the photography lesson learned is to plan ahead, but go with the flow.

For the next few pics,  I believe that my lesson learned...
was to be a bit bolder,  wait until the shot is right
and don't be so nervous that you move the camera too soon after you release the shutter.

But be quick with the camera so you can catch the unexpected.

And finally...
when all else fails,
edit the heck out of the picture!

I have to pick my three favorites from the walk to put into the I heart faces site.
Which three would you choose?

Nice collection. =)

You took a lot of great shots. The people shots are my favorite. I love watching people, wondering about them, making up versions of their lives... it's a thing.

I would pick the water, duck butts and the woman touching the wall. The flying geese w/the monument is a good one too. Sounds like you had a great day. I'm glad the weather held for it.

You took PLENTY of artistic shots so choosing should be hard but my favorite 3 are...

1. I have a dream

2. The monument that you didn't have a lesson for. ;)

3. unexpected bird in flight (2nd to last shot)

upside down ducks, water fountain and the woman with that fabulous hat are my three favorite images. never been on a photowalk myself - probably because i am an extreme introvert.

You've learned so much, I envy you! ( in a good way) I LOVE LOVE LOVE your pictures! My favorite one is the one with the three ducks and the monument, that one is awesome, the water tap and the lady in pink. You're right sometimes the craziest ideas make the best pictures!

You took so many amazing pics, it's hard to choose a favorite. I adore the water fountain pic. The whole "water frozen in time" aspect is just so cool. I love the picture of the lady in the hat...but really...I love the duck butts :)

I LOVE some of those random people shots you caught! It makes me want to go out and get a whole new set of pictures!! I was concentrating way too much on things and not people. :)

I'm with Lolli... Was too busy chatting and looking at the monuments to look at other people! ;)

It was so nice to meet you! Your photos are wonderful and reflect how warm and sweet your personality is! :)

So cool you went on a walk too! I loved mine...really loved it. I haven't posted that many photos...just one at a time so far on my photo blog. I learned many similar lessons. I love the last one! My favorite photo is the water fountain...unexpected! I have the hardest time picking the ones I should submit too!

Colleen - I am way late on looking at these. I didn't even post my own! I love 'em and congrats on the "best shot"! My favorite here is the hat lady vignetted - very nice! What lens were you shooting with?
