A Halloween Flashback

This one is going back.... way back...

I dug through the old photos and found quite a few pictures of me in my 1970's era Halloween costumes.

My mom was pretty good and coming up with homemade costumes.
I don't remember ever having a store bought one.

Maybe that's why I usually try to make my kids costumes.
All the ones at the stores look cheap or, for the girls, cheap in an entirely different way.

Anyhow, Mom, I love the bunny suit idea.

But I definitely DID NOT like the snowman.
My mother worked sooooo hard on this costume and I outright refused to wear it.
I remember this vividly.
She was NOT happy with me.
However, if she was going to go through all that work, I was darn well going to put it on and get my picture taken!
I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that this ghoul was the alternate plan.
I remember being quite happy about this costume because it was soooo scary!

But why am I wearing that hat?

Apparently, the bunny costume got recycled and my sister got to wear it several years later.
I was a gypsy.
That was one of my mom's "go-to" costumes.
I know I was a gypsy more than once and so was my sister.

(The scariest thing in this picture may be that couch!  Plaid!)

Not really sure what I am in this one.
A hobo maybe??
Batgirl was a friend of mine.
She had a store bought costume...

Don't tell her, but.... I like mine better.  :)

So... tell me...
What was your favorite Halloween Costume?

Check out some of my kids costumes from years past.

And for more flashbacks this Friday check out Christopher and Tia's Flashback Friday.

Cute! We always had homemade ones too, and I was a hobo or clown more times than I care to remember. ;)

LOOOOVVEEEE them! I still remember the lame year where my mom put me in a dress, wrapped my head in a towel and told me I could be a gypsy. I SO did not want to be one either. I'm pretty sure I cried for the first few houses. I think my favorite Halloween was when I was in my early 20's. I dressed as a mobster and carried my Super Soaker out club hopping. Everyone kept asking to use it. One guy I knew squirted some random girl then handed it back to me and she thought I did it. Fun times!

Oh my gosh!! That was fun looking over the old pictures. You are so right about the snowman. Neither of us have forgotten that night I see. Yes, you were a hobo. I did do some recycling on ideas and costumes didn't I? Leslie, are you going to show your gypsy costume?

Oh so fun!! I love the snowman story - it took me a second look to find you in there! We had a rotating stock of a cat (one of dads black tee shirts and a tail) and a bunny (for our younger years). But the real costume came when we could dress up in moms old dress and pretend we were from "The olden days" especially when she put make up on us. I think my favorite costume was one I came up with, when I went as a "Box" I remember knocking on a door and a kid opened it and yelled "Mommy! There is a box at the door!!" Great memories. Thanks for sharing :)

What a fun post! I think my mom has all of my pictures, otherwise I would copy you :). I was just thinking how much fun it was to try to come up with our own costumes. I have to admit we buy them each year now. I miss the creativity.

My mom always made my costumes too, and most of my kids'. The one I remember most for me was being a turtle - she used a box as my shell. Too fun! I would have loved your snowman! Did your sister ever wear that one?

Wow, what fun pictures! My mom made most of my Halloween costumes too. I think my favorite one was the fairy when I was 6 years old.
