You Capture: Autumn

In previous years, we've managed to jump the gun a bit on the whole pumpkin carving thing.
Way before Halloween actually arrived, we'd end up with moldy, slimy, nasty pumpkins.

This year we were going to be smart.
We decided to wait until only one week before Halloween to carve our pumpkins.

The kids had fun.
The pumpkins turned out great.
So we took them outside and....

We had three straight days of temperatures in the high 70's and crazy humidity.

You know what that does to pumpkins?

THIS...
Hairy, nasty, moldy pumpkins.

(I kind of like how the pumpkin on the bottom left is starting to resemble a pirate.)

Maybe those pictures were too gross...
Maybe you'd rather see some of the prettier aspects of Fall.

The leaves have FINALLY begun to turn.
I think we hit peak color a couple of days ago...
immediately followed by crazy winds and lots of rain.
There went all the leaves!  :(
While I was in my front yard taking these pictures, I noticed that a lot of cars were honking their horns.

(NO... they were not honking at me... they couldn't see me.)

Now, I live on a pretty busy road, but people don't usually do all that honking.
So I peeked around the hedge and saw these cuties...

Looks like Halloween came a bit early at the local pre-school.
Aren't they cute?
I was kind of loving the little Yoda.

Oh my goodness, our pumpkin that we carved is totally nasty and needs to hit the can, but Chase refuses. He wants to carve them in like SEPTEMBER!!! We may have to try a few more before Sunday. I love how yours turned out!!! So inspiring :D

Thanks for the reminder - I *really* should get my carving pumpkin act together! I also *really* love these pictures, especially the leaves and web and water...they could be posters.

I love the spiderweb with the leaf in it. And the moldy pirate pumpkin is cute, in a moldy pumpkin sort of way... :-/

This hot weather is not good for pumpkins...that's for sure, but I do love your other fall photos.

The web shot is cool! Is that a bleeding heart in the picture? Great captures!

Beautiful! I love the shots of the leaves. I hear you about moldy pumpkins. We don't carve any until just before halloween because the same thing happens here.

Lol - I'm sorry on the whole pumpkin situation! Best laid plans right? I feel your pain too! Way too hot and muggy here! Love the pics though...especially the kids! That's awesome!

We don't carve until a couple of nights before for that reason. So yucky!! ;)

Great photos, I especially like the first one after the pumpkins. So pretty.

All of your photos are great. I LOVE the leaf photos, and the preschoolers? Adorable!

Ha! Those preschool pictures are just precious! My neighbor had the great idea to make their pumpkin throwing up (maybe because she's prego) and she saved all the insides to spread out on the ground around it on Sunday. Your pirate pumpkin could maybe be seasick ;)

Will you carve again? Who were the artists? Your other fall pictures are card worthy. Dad will tell you that. What a bonus, getting to see the preschool parade. They look so cute.

that stinks about the pumpkins...maybe literally! will you do more? i love the little cutie parade.

I'll trade you temperatures ok sister? Dontcha complain about this weather. It will be $*(#)&%nowing before too soon.

Pretty pretty fall pics (but I liked the rotting pumpkins, too) spiderweb leaf shot was my fave.

Oh and I have a soft spot for yodas... Bean was yoda when he was 15months old ... sniff sniff. It seems like forever ago. He even had his golden curls then.

Your posts are fun :). Thanks for the cheer. Love that pic of the spiderweb with the leaf in it. And our pumpkins looked like that too. We have more to make on sat. Hopefully they will last until Sunday! :)

My pumpkin also died, so got some more and then left them outside in the freezing and the snow, so they're more or less okay for now.

Great leaf photos. :D

Your part of the world seems very festive and autumny, lol. I love your pumpkins and you can be happy that you got wonderful photos before and the mold just makes them more scary for tomorrow. :0)

Yas, it would seem that we share the same stomping grounds... Cox is open for about 2 more weeks, one in which they have a pumkin flinging party. It might be kind of fun to catch the season ender! Oh, and glad you enjoyed the chaperone assignment. My kids are younger, so I have babysitter duty on their trips while trying to weild the camera. But when we take my students out, it is pretty much freedom - for them and the teachers as well.

Love your macro shots. I've been eyeing a macro for some time now.

great fall shots!!!! what camera do you suggest for taking great action photo's, pictures outside at night, for concerts, low lighing, a camera where i don't have to take many test shots to find the right setting to take photo's for different scenarios, etc. in other words my kodak camera sucks.
