Missouri photos

EXTRA EXTRA...Japan Surrenders !!!

Well actually..it was almost 63 years ago. But hey, history is cool so I took the opportunity while in Hawaii this past week to visit the battleship USS Missouri in Pearl Harbor. The "Mighty Mo" was the scene of the surrender ceremony by the Empire of Japan to the Allied Powers on September 2, 1945 in Tokyo Bay. Two years ago, Kevin and Grant and I sailed by this battleship while heading out on "Tiger Cruise" on board the USS Abraham Lincoln. I always wanted to go see it. I was proud to be on Lincoln...but I'm glad we never had to take on the Mighty Mo. The largest guns ever built on a warship. How's that for OLD SCHOOL ! Dan

Here are some of the archived photos from Missouri's Surrender Deck. They had the actual surrender document too but it didn't photograph very well. Having been to Japan twice, I know from experience that they are the friendliest people you could ever meet. They are now our strongest ally in the Pacific theater. Hey...I kind of like this blogging stuff :-)

Hey Dan, I'm glad to see that you chose to add to the family blog. Mixing work and sightseeing isn't half bad is it? Especially when you're ding it in Hawaii!! Miss you.
