Roman art from the Louvre

Grant and Quincy's history class took a field trip to the Seattle Art Museum to check out the Roman art exhibit. It was one of the few times I've been on a docent led tour of an exhibit. The tour was nice, but they wouldn't let us take pictures, so I found these online.

This guy was one of my favorites. I just like how real he looked.

This mosaic was another favorite. It was amazingly intricate and had lots of birds and lizards and other such things portrayed on it. Unfortunately, the picture doesn't do it justice.

After we were done with the tour, we wandered around looking at some of the other exhibits. Grant was not overly impressed with the modern art exhibits. As he walked into one of the modern art rooms, he said very loudly, "Is this art?" Ha! Honestly, if I can replicate it with some degree of accuracy, it's just not art.

I was surprised at how small the museum was. Unless, they have another wing hidden somewhere, the Seattle Art Museum did not have nearly as many exhibits as some of the other museums we have visited elsewhere, so I was a little disappointed. Can't wait to get back to the east coast so we can visit some of the many great museums in New York and D.C.

Tulip Festival

Well, we finally did it, we made it to the Tulip Festival. Julia had a great time taking some wonderful pictures and Quincy got some kettle corn. What more could you ask for? Didn't Julia do a great job with the pictures?

Julia's horse show

Julia finally got her turn to compete in a horse show this weekend. She did so well, as did her pony, Akuna. There was a lot of competition in her division, twelve or more in most of her classes, and she was one of the younger ones competing, but she managed to get a ribbon in every class. If she were right here by me, she'd be able to remind me what ribbons she got, but I believe she received two seconds, two thirds, two fifths, and a sixth. That sounds about right. The video is of her cross rails equitation class in which she placed second. Go Julia!!

Quincy was in this show as well, but we didn't take any pictures... sorry, Quincy! She did an amazing job and the judge really seemed to like her. Quincy won high point in her division (2'3") with three firsts, two seconds, and two fifths. Sadly, we think that this will be our last show in Washington State. We'll miss Dandee and Akuna and all of our barn/show friends.

He'll be back again someday...

Last weekend's snow didn't last long, but Bucky the snowman hung around for a few extra days. Unfortunately, the warm weather had it's way and Bucky is no more.
Grant went out with the camera and took a few pictures of his final resting place.

Hello, Julia and Grant decided to pull out some pots and pans and start a rock band. The video pretty much says it all.

Fun in the snow

Once we got over the shock of snow in APRIL!, the kids decided to make the most of it.
It was nice to have enough snow to play in.
Meet Bucky the Snowman.

Julia and Grant were out until 8:30 last night building this snowman. The side benefit of having snow in April is that you have so many more hours to get out there and enjoy it. By the time the kids came in, it was too dark to take pictures, but we got out there first thing this morning and Bucky was still there waiting patiently for his photo shoot. Grant and Julia are still out there playing, getting in every last moment of snow before it melts.

I love Julia's face in this picture. This was her response when Madeline mentioned that her mother had juice and maybe she would let them make slushies. They took off right after that and I honestly don't know if they were allowed to make slushies. I'd say yuck! but they had already eaten alot of the snow plain. I guess it couldn't hurt to add some flavor. Maybe.

Snow again!!!!!!!!!

Well, I hope all of you on the east coast are enjoying your 80 degree weather! It has been snowing all day long and it doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon. Jodi, Danielle, and I were planning on having a yard sale tomorrow, but canceled it when we heard the weather reports. I can't imagine we'd have many people coming out to look at our junk in this kind of weather. It's sooooo cold!!!

These pictures were taken during the one short lull that we had in the snow. As I type this, the snow is coming down in buckets.

Another Horse Show Video

This was from the last day of Spring Nationals. It's the clearest video we have, but not necessarily Quincy's best round. She wishes we had better videos. Sorry, Quincy.

Yum

Hey, Leslie... I'm just so proud of myself for making this sauce all by myself without a recipe, that I thought I'd take pictures to show you. I decided to do it because I had six roma tomatoes that needed to be used before they went bad. I also had half of a large onion and a bag of spinach that needed to be used before they went bad or before today's vegetable delivery overwhelmed me with more veggies than I could use. I cooked up all the veggies, then added some seasonings and a can of plain tomato sauce. It turned out really well.

This is the sauce before I put it in the food processor. I would have eaten it like this, but I didn't think that the kids would like it.

After the food processor...

On the tortellini

Yum!

Spring Nationals Day Three... final day!

Today was the last day of Quincy's first "A" show. We're tired and glad that we are done, but also a little sad too. It was a lot of fun. Quincy had three classes today, all of them over fences. She placed eighth in one of her hunter rounds and seventh in her equitation round, both out of seventeen riders. We're especially pleased with the equitation round. (They judge that round mainly on Quincy's riding ability, the way she looks, her position, etc... the other rounds are more of a combination of Quincy and Dandee.) Speaking of Dandee... There she is just below. Julia took that picture and funnily, that is the very look Dandee always gives Julia, a kind of quiet patience with that strange, small human. Isn't she pretty. We are going to miss her when we move.

I don't suppose any amount of pressure can keep a girl from making faces at her sister.
I would say that this was the face Quincy made when she saw the roll back in her EQ class, but I really think Quincy welcomed the change from simple straight lines and she did the roll back beautifully.

Behind the scenes

Here are just a few pictures of the other things that were going on at the show.
